Psalms 136; Psalms 137: 1 β 6 and Psalms 138
Psalms 136
For HIS mercy endureth forever…
This repeated refrain teaches us that GOD’s mercy and love are the foundation of all HIS works on our behalf and the fountainhead of all our Thanksgiving. HIS love includes HIS mercy, faithfulness and kindness.β
OLD TESTAMENT
π
Jeremiah 52: 1 β 34
Jeremiah 52: 31 β 34
See this history of king Jehoiachin in 2 Kings 25:27-30.
Those under oppression will find it is not in vain for them to hope and quietly to wait for the salvation of the LORD our times are in GOD’s hand, for the hearts of all we have to deal with are so.
May we be enabled, more and more, to rest on the Rock of Ages, and to look forward with holy faith to that hour, when the LORD will bring Zion again, and overthrow all the enemies of the church.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
Acts 11: 19 β 12: 12
Acts 12: 2
Killed James.
GOD allowed James, the brother of John, to die, yet He sent an angel to rescue Peter. That James should die while Peter lived for further ministry is the mysterious way of GOD with His people. James had the honour of being the first of the apostles to meet a martyr’s death. He died as HIS LORD had, for the cause of GOD.
