Psalms 57; 58 and 59: 1 β 4 & 9 β 17
Psalms 58: 1 β 5
When wrong is done under the form of law, it is worse than any other; especially it is grievous to behold those who profess to be children of GOD, joining together against any of his people. We should thank the LORD for merciful restraints; we should be more earnest in seeking renewing grace, more watchful over ourselves, and more patient under the effects of fallen nature in others. The corruption of their nature was the root of bitterness. We may see in children the wickedness of the world beginning. They go astray from GOD and do their duty as soon as possible they β can. And how soon will little children tell lies? It is our duty to take pains to teach them, and above all, earnestly to pray for converting grace to make our children new creatures. Though the poison be within, much of it may be kept from breaking forth to injure others. When the SAVIOUR’s words are duly regarded, the serpent becomes harmless. But those who refuse to hear heavenly wisdom must perish miserably, forever.
OLD TESTAMENT
π
Jeremiah 28: 1 β 17
Jeremiah 28: 6 β 9
Amen the LORD do so.
Jeremiah’s Amen shows he also desired the return of the captives, however, first he prophesied further disaster for the people. Time would show Hananiah to be a false prophet and Jeremiah true one. Jeremiah here did not immediately give a new Prophecy, he referred instead to the Word of GOD already given through prophets who preceded himself.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
Luke 18: 15 β 43
Luke 18: 15 β 17
None are too little, too young, to be brought to CHRIST, who knows how to show kindness to those not capable of doing service to him. It is the mind of CHRIST that little children should be brought to HIM. The promise is to us, and to our seed; therefore HE will bid them welcome to HIM with us. And we must receive HIS kingdom as children, not by purchase, and must call it our FATHER’s gift.
