GOD is my helper.

This psalm is an appropriate prayer for the believer facing dangers or imminent disaster. The psalmist calls for help, expecting that GOD will respond in HIS saving, delivering and healing power. Today the LORD sends the HOLY SPIRIT to be our helper on earth and the sustainer of our souls.

Arose not a prophet since…like unto Moses.

Moses’ great distinctions were his intimate fellowship with GOD and his understanding of the nature and person of GOD. The foremost desire of all believers should be to know GOD and experience HIS close fellowship, this is our greatest privilege and right as GOD’s children. No person in CHRIST, possessing an inner life of devotion and an outer life of godliness, will stand denied the presence and grace of GOD. The fellowship of GOD the FATHER, the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT is the believer’s greatest promise and reward.

The faith …delivered unto the saints.

Those faithful to CHRIST are placed under the solemn obligation to contend for the faith that GOD delivered to the apostles and saints. The faith consists of the gospel proclaimed by CHRIST and the apostles. It is the fixed and unalterable truth, given by the HOLY SPIRIT and embodied in the New Testament.

The word contend describes the battle that the faithful believer must fight in the defence of the faith. It means literally to struggle, suffer be under great stress or fight a fight. We must exert ourselves to the utmost in the defense of GOD’s Word and the New Testament faith. Taking a direct stand against those who deny the authority of the Bible or distort the faith as presented by  CHRIST and the apostles.
