Psalms 109: 1 β 5 & 21 β 31 and 110
Psalms 110: 1 β 7
The LORD said unto my LORD.
This psalm speaks of the LORDSHIP of the MESSIAH, HIS priesthood, HIS destruction of the wicked and HIS reign on earth. It clearly prophesies about JESUS CHRIST. JESUS applied verse 1 to HIMSELF in making HIS claim to the deity, and the apostle Peter quoted verse 1 to emphasize CHRISTβs LORDSHIP.β
OLD TESTAMENT
π
1 Chronicles 24: 20 β 25: 7
1 Chronicles 25: 1
Prophesy with, by harps.
The usual meaning of – to prophesy is to use one’s voice for GOD’s service and to HIS glory under divine impulse. Here it is used to signify singing and playing music to praise GOD, most likely under the direct influence of the HOLY SPIRIT. Under the new covenant, prophesying came to be a predominant manifestation of the HOLY SPIRIT among those who believe in CHRIST and who are filled with the SPIRIT.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
John 11: 45 β 57
John 11: 54 β 57
Before our gospel Passover we must renew our repentance.
Thus by a voluntary purification, and by religious exercises, many, more devout than their neighbours, spent some time before the Passover at Jerusalem. When we expect to meet GOD, we must solemnly prepare. No devices of man can alter the purposes of GOD: and while hypocrites amuse themselves with forms and disputes, and worldly men pursue their own plans, JESUS still orders all things for HIS own glory and the salvation of His people.
