Ecumenism, from the Greek word “oikoumene,” meaning “the whole inhabited world,” is the promotion of cooperation and unity among Christians. We engage in ecumenical dialogue because of the belief that a divided Christianity is a scandal to the world and an impediment to the proclamation of the Gospel.

Ecumenism is the movement within Christianity that aims to restore unity among all Christian denominations by encouraging dialogue and collaboration between churches. In other words, it works to promote Christian unity and cooperation among different denominations.

It represents the universality of Christianity, affecting the way Christians think about their faith, the church, and the world.

The ecumenical movement seeks to be obedient to the Word of God, to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to the authority of those whose ministry it is to ensure that the Church remains faithful to that apostolic

Tradition in which the Word of God and the gifts of the Spirit are received.

Ecumenical Sunday – This day gives Christians an annual opportunity to continue their quest for the unity they already share in Christ.

Father of compassion, renew our faith in YOU and bind us together through YOUR love, so that we can recognise each other as YOUR children, and come together as one. We praise YOU through JESUS CHRIST, YOUR only – begotten SON, in the communion of the HOLY SPIRIT.
