Psalms 50 and 51
Psalms 51: 5
I was shapen in iniquity.
David acknowledges that from his infancy he possessed a natural propensity to sin, elsewhere in Scripture referred to as the lust, works or sins of the flesh. Because of this sinful nature, every person is marred from birth by a selfish inclination to pursue his or her own desires and pleasures, even if it causes pain and suffering for others. The problem of the sinful nature and its desires within us can be resolved only by the power of the Cross and the enabling grace of the HOLY SPIRIT.β
OLD TESTAMENT
π
2 Chronicles 24: 1 β 27
2 Chronicles 24: 20
The SPIRIT of GOD came upon Zechariah.
The HOLY SPIRIT came upon Zechariah, and he exposed and rebuked the sin of Joash and the officials of Judah. The work of conviction concerning sin is a primary function of the HOLY SPIRIT. Often through using a godly spokesman such as Zechariah, the SPIRIT uncovers guilt in order to lead people to repentance.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
1 John 3: 19 β 4: 6
1 John 5: 4
Overcometh the world… even our faith.
The faith that overcomes the world is a faith that sees eternal realities, experiences the power of GOD and loves CHRIST to such an extent that the world sinful pleasures ungodly ways and selfish materialism not only loose their attraction for us but also are looked upon with disgust, aversion and grief.
