Psalms 76 and 77
Psalms 76: 7 β 12
GOD’s people are the meek of the earth, the quiet in the land that suffer wrong, but do none. The righteous GOD seems to keep silent long, yet, sooner or later he will make the judgment to be heard. We live in an angry, provoking world; we often feel much and are apt to fear more, from the wrath of man. What will not turn to HIS praise, shall not be suffered to break out. HE can set bounds to the wrath of man, as HE does to the raging sea; hitherto it shall come, and no further. Let all submit to GOD, our prayers and praises, and especially our hearts, are the presents we should bring to the LORD. HIS name is glorious, and HE is the proper object of our fear. HE β shall cut off the spirit of princes; HE shall slip it off easily, as we slip off a flower from theΒ stalk, or a bunch of grapes from the vine; so the word signifies. HE can dispirit the most daring: since there is no contending with GOD, it is our wisdom, as it is our duty, to submit to HIM. Let us seek HIS favour as our portion, and commit all our concerns to HIM.

1 Chronicles 6: 64 β 7: 19
Here, we have an account of the Levites’ cities. They are here called their castles (1 Chronicles 6: 54), not only because walled and fortified, and well-guarded by the country (for it is the interest of every nation to protect its ministers), but because they and their possessions were, in a particular manner, the care of the divine providence: as GOD was their portion, so GOD was their protection, and a cottage will be a castle to those that abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
This account is much the same as that which we had, Joshua 21. We need not be critical in comparing them (what good will it do us?) nor will it do any hurt to the credit of the holy scripture if the names of some of the places be not spelt just the same here as they were there. We know it is common for cities to have several names. Sarum and Salisbury, Salop and Shrewsbury, are more unlike Hilen (1 Chronicles 6: 58) and Holon (Joshua 21:15), Ashan (1 Chronicles 6: 59) and Ain (Joshua 21:16), Alemeth (1 Chronicles 6: 60) and Almon (Joshua 21:18); and time changes names.
We are only to observe that in this appointment of cities for the Levites, GOD took care,
1. For the accomplishment of dying Jacob’s prediction concerning this tribe, is that it should be scattered in Israel, Genesis 49:7.
2. For the diffusing of the knowledge of himself and his law to all parts of the land of Israel. Every tribe had Levites’ cities in it; and so every room was furnished with a candle, so that none could be ignorant of his duty but it was either his own fault or the Levites’.
3. For a comfortable maintenance for those that ministered in holy things. Besides their tithes and offerings, they had glebe lands and cities of their own to dwell in. β
Some of the most considerable cities of Israel fell to the Levites’ lot. Every tribe benefited from the Levites, and therefore every tribe must contribute to their support. Let him that is taught in the word communicate to him that teacheth, and do it cheerfully.

Signs and Wonders.
Sings and wonders are an authentic and important part of proclaiming the kingdom of GOD. However, our faith must not be centered on them but on JESUS CHRIST, to whom they bear witness. We must believe in JESUS CHRIST because of who HE is, GODβs SON, our LORD and SAVIOUR. JESUS must be worshipped and esteemed because of HIS love, mercy and righteous character, not just for what HE can do for us in a physical or material way. Signs, wonders and miracles must lead to a deep attachment to the LORD and to a greater faith in HIM.
