Psalms 66 and 67
Psalms 66: 18
If I regard iniquity in my heart.
Those who take pleasure in unrighteousness have no hope of answered prayer when they call on GOD. GOD wants us separated from sin, only then will HE respond to us as a Father to a son.β
OLD TESTAMENT
π
1 Chronicles 4: 1 β 23
1 Chronicles 4: 10
Jabez called on the GOD of Israel.
The righteous example of Jabez stresses the truth that GOD blesses those who faithfully call upon HIM. Note that Jabez was more honourable than his brethren. Jabez’s life and prayer demonstrate how GOD delights in blessing those who call upon HIM in faith and earnestly seek HIS favour. Jabez’s four-part prayer is a model for all believers. He earnestly desired GOD’s favour and blessing. He Petitioned GOD to enlarge his territory. He asked that GOD’s hand would be with him in all spheres of His life and He asked GOD to keep him from evil or harm so that he would not be a cause of pain to GOD, himself or others. GOD heard Jabez’s prayer and granted him that which he requested. We can be assured this is the prayer that GOD delights to answer.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
John 3: 1 β 21
John 3: 16
GOD so loved the world.
This verse reveals the heart and purpose of GOD. GOD’s love is wide enough to embrace all persons.
GOD gave HIS SON as an offering for sin on the cross. The atonement proceeds from the loving heart of GOD. It was not something forced on HIM.
To believe includes three main elements
a) A sure conviction that JESUS CHRIST is GOD’s SON and the only SAVIOUR for lost humanity.
b) A fully assured trust in CHRIST that HE is both able and willing to bring you to final salvation and to fellowship with GOD in heaven.
c) A self-surrendering fellowship with and obedience to CHRIST.
