Call upon me in the day of trouble.
The LORD invites all faithful believers to call continually upon HIM in times of need and trouble. GOD desires to hear our prayers, to help us and to have HIS name exalted as a GOD who rescues His people.

Smite the inhabitants…with the edge of the sword.
Most of the Israelites in Jabesh-Gilead were killed because they refused to join with Israel in the war against the Benjamites. Their sin was seen in not standing with GOD and His people against the heinous sin committed by some of their brethren.

Washing and regeneration.
This refers to the new birth of believers, symbolically pictured in Christian baptism. Renewing of the HOLY GHOST points to the constant imparting of His life to believers as they surrender their lives to GOD through JESUS CHRIST.
