Psalms 89
Psalms 89: 15 β 18
Happy are those who so know the joyful sound of the gospel as to obey it; who experience its power upon their hearts, and bring forth the fruit of it in their lives. Though believers are nothing in themselves, yet having all in CHRIST JESUS, they may rejoice in HIS name. May the LORD enable us to do so. The joy of the LORD is the strength of His people; whereas unbelief dispirits ourselves and discourages others. Though it steals upon us under a semblance of humility, yet it is the very β essence of pride. CHRIST is the Holy One of Israel, and in HIM was that peculiar people more blessed than in any other blessing.
OLD TESTAMENT
π
Jeremiah 38: 1 β 28
Jeremiah 38: 6
Cast him into the dungeon.
The dungeon was a cistern used to catch rainwater and store it for summer use, shaped like a bell, the opening at the top was approximately three feet wide. The officials knew that Jeremiah would not live long confined to the cistern. Jeremiah suffered greatly for maintaining his faithfulness to GOD and HIS message. For those faithful to GOD’s revelation and righteousness, opposition can be expected in this world persecution for righteousness’ sake will come from the world, and at times even from those within the church.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
Acts 1: 15 β 2: 13
Acts 2: 1
Pentecost was the second great festival of the Jewish year, it was a harvest festival when the first fruits of the grain harvest were presented to GOD. In like manner, Pentecost symbolizes for the church the beginning of GOD’s harvest for souls in the world.
