Psalms 147 and 148
Psalms 147: 11 β 20
The Church, like Jerusalem of old, built up and preserved by the wisdom, power, and
goodness of GOD, is exhorted to praise HIM for all the benefits and blessings
vouchsafed to her, and these are represented by HIS favours in the course of nature.
The thawing word may represent the gospel of Christ, and the thawing wind the
SPIRIT OF CHRIST; for the SPIRIT is compared to the wind, John 3:8. Converting grace
softens the heart that was hard frozen, and melts it into tears of repentance, and
makes good reflections to flow, which before were chilled and stopped up. The
change which the thaw makes is very evident, yet how it is done no one can say.
Such is the change wrought in the conversion of a soul when God’s word and Spirit
are sent to melt it and restore it to itself.
OLD TESTAMENT
π
Isaiah 32: 1 β 20β
Isaiah 32: 9 β 14
Women that are at ease.
Many Israelites were complacent about sin, even though it was destroying their
families and their nation, instead Isaiah told them that they should beat their
breasts, tremble, put on sackcloth and be distressed as they cry out to GOD until HE
pours out the SPIRIT from heaven. Today, whenever sin, satan and the world gain
inroads in the church, we too should mourn and cry out for GOD to restore HIS
favour, and the revelation of HIS glory in the manifest presence and transforming
power of the HOLY SPIRIT.
NEW TESTAMENT
β
Luke 2: 15 β 25
Luke 2: 22
Present HIM to the LORD.
As Joseph and Mary presented JESUS to the LORD, so all parents should sincerely
consecrate their children to the LORD. They should pray constantly that from the
beginning to the end of each childβs life, he or she will be found doing the LORDβs
Will, serving and glorifying GOD with complete devotion.

Away in an obscure corner of Asia Minor, the greatest event of worldβs history had taken place: The advent of Jesus Christ and the founding of the Christian Church.
