The heathen had come…
The psalmist here intercedes with GOD to forgive the Israelites for their apostasy and to punish the nations that have destroyed Jerusalem and GOD’s temple, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians. He acknowledges that the pagan nations were instruments of GOD’s anger, yet what they had done against Israel was executed out of hatred for GOD and His chosen people.β

Every spiritual revival recorded in the Old Testament came from renewed proclamation of and commitment to the Word of GOD. Josiah read the words of the Book of the Covenant in the people’s presence, and they returned to the LORD.

We are persuaded better things of you.
The writer is confident that his readers have not entered into the apostasy described in verses 4 β 8. He assures them that for those who remain loyal to CHRIST in faith and love their hope of eternal salvation is certain and unchangeable, because GOD cannot lie and HIS promises remain steadfast.β
